Icelandic Mishaps

Iceland, Seljalandsfoss, Icelandic Mishaps

Photographers, both pro and amateur, generally prefer showing their best or favorite work. I’ll venture from that path for a moment and show an Icelandic mishap.
Last year I realized my dream of visiting Iceland. Armed with my camera, and shooting constantly, I wasn’t always paying attention to my surroundings. (Like a kid in a candy store, I didn’t know what to grab.) As we, my wife, daughter and myself, were driving on Rte 1 in the south, I looked to my left and spotted “Seljalandsfoss”. I said to my wife, “I recognize that waterfall! I forgot to write it on my to-do list.” We quickly pull in and start exploring. This particular waterfall has a trail directly behind it so the waterfall is then in front of you!
As I photograph, I know the water spray is building on the lens (was never a problem to clean) but in my excitement I thought, “It’s not a problem. It’ll disappear in the photo.” How foolish.
I did get non-spray pics.
I hope I return to Iceland. I’ll still be the kid in the candy store, but I won’t let it overwhelm my thought process.

Traveling on Route 1, in the south and east of Vik, in the distance is the Myrdalsjokull glacier.
Different parts of the glacier have different names.

…don’t need you anymore…

Father's Day

Someone said, “Parents need to raise their children
so when they become adults, they don’t need you anymore.”
An unintended consequence I found is “I still need them“.
This Sunday is Father’s Day.
Happy Father’s day to all the Dads.

Mel’s Drive-In

Mel's Drive In, Restaurant, Diner, San Francisco, California

Before George Lucas changed the American Film landscape with Star Wars, he made American Graffiti. A story set in the 1950’s starring an ensemble cast that included Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss and Harrison Ford (aka Hans Solo). The action takes place in California during one night and Mel’s Drive-In is featured prominently in the narrative. The photograph above was taken in San Francisco.

Recently my son and his girlfriend had a weekend getaway to the city and I mentioned Mel’s. They stopped in for a meal.

San Francisco Cable Car

San Francisco Cable Car

Traveling on a  San Francisco cable car is  part of the experience,
but imagine being the cable car operator. You not only have to operate
antique machinery, but you also have to warn knuckleheads who come
dangerously close to losing a limb.

Living Planet

Living Planet, Hverarond, Lake Myvatn, Iceland

The Living Planet.
The Earth breathes at Hverarond by Lake Myvatn in Northern Iceland.
The steam has a very strong sulfur smell.
My daughter with her face wrapped in a scarf
to lessen the odor, takes some photographs of the traveling mist.
